Carl Dalton NeSmith, Jr.
Dalton’s areas of expertise include estate planning, probate, real estate, business law, municipal law, and public utility law. He is a second-generation attorney practicing in the Blount County area.
Dalton graduated from the University of Alabama in 1976 with a bachelor’s degree in finance. In 1980, he graduated from the Mississippi College School of Law.
After graduating from law school, Dalton was a sole practitioner for eight years before becoming a partner in Smith and NeSmith in 1989. In 2013 he joined practice with Edward Lowe, and in 2019, his son Rob joined them and formed NeSmith, Lowe, & Nesmith.
In addition to his law practice, Dalton formed Landmark Title of Alabama in 2013. He has more than forty years of experience as a municipal judge serving Blountsville, Douglas, and Snead, Alabama. He also spent a decade as the city prosecutor for Altoona, Alabama, and he has served as retained counsel for the Birmingham Water Works for twenty-five years.
Dalton currently serves as attorney for the Town of Blountsville and the Blountsville Utility Board. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Birmingham Water Works, having been appointed by the Blount County Commission.
Dalton and his wife, Jane Ann, have six children and eleven grandchildren. When not working, he enjoys gardening, home improvement projects, traveling, and spending time with his family.
